I've been a professional psychic for over 30 years. I read cards, I channel information directly from Spirit, I communicate with people who have passed on. These are all ways that I get information from "the other side," the non-physical realm. I can also contact people who are still alive but not present, if they have information they can share.

In this blog I intend to share information about what I do so that people who might need my services can find out about me, and also to help people who are interested in doing similar work.

People often ask me how I got into this line of work, so here's my background in a nutshell:

As a small child, I was able to hold two-way conversations with plants and animals. Growing up, I often knew what other people were thinking and feeling, but I assumed that was normal and thought nothing of it. When I was 38 I met a professional psychic who taught me to read playing cards and urged me to share my gifts by offering psychic readings to the public. In the course of doing readings with the cards, I gradually found out that I could do other things like channel Spirit or communicate with the dead. Somewhere along the line I learned to work with other spirits or energies and do things like clear houses and other spaces. I'll be writing articles about each of these aspects of my work; if you get tired of waiting feel free to ask questions.

How well do you know yourself?

My introduction to "alternative reality" was with a palm reader, long ago. The only thing I remember from the reading is that she told me I had been abused as a child. I had a concept of what "child abuse" was, and it didn't fit with anything that had happened in my family, so I assumed she didn't know what she was talking about. A few months later, I had a reading with a different palm reader, who told me the same thing. I still "knew" they were both wrong, but it certainly made me wonder why they both said it.
Today, I know that there are many different ways that a child can be abused, and it doesn't even have to be intentional. And it definitely did happen in my family and to me. I just didn't recognize that fact at the time of those first palm readings.

I went to a woman for my first healing session a few months after that. She had me sit in a straight-backed chair, and she placed a similar chair for herself about 8 feet in front of me. I wondered why she was sitting so far away from me, and, as if she had heard my question, she stated that the chairs were so far apart because I was so fearful of what we were going to do that it would be easier for her to work if we weren't close together. I replied that I wasn't afraid or I wouldn't have been there in the first place. Nevertheless, she did her work while sitting at that distance from me. By the time it was all over, I was very impressed with her and her work, despite the fact that she had been "mistaken" in thinking that I was afraid.
A few weeks later, I went to another healer, and as we were just getting into the session, she said that the first thing she was going to have to do was calm my fears about working with her. I told her what I had told the first healer: I wasn't afraid, otherwise I wouldn't be there. She disregarded that, as the first healer had, and went about her work as if she knew what she was doing. And, just as the first healer had, she impressed me very much with her work. So I knew that she knew what she was doing, I just couldn't figure out how she could be such a good healer and still come up with such a crazy idea!
Not too long after that, I went to my third healer. (Yes, I was very gung-ho!) As we both relaxed and got settled in, she said that she was going to bring in an angel to entertain my inner child so that we could work without all his fear getting in the way! I was still very new to all this stuff, and I still had no idea what "fear" she was talking about, but I knew there had to be a reason why all of these people thought they were seeing so much fear in me!

All these years later, I know that they were indeed right. I recognize that I was brought up to fear anything new and different. When I became an adult who wanted to find out about all these "new and different" spiritual concepts, one of my main obstacles was all the fear that had been imprinted on me as a child. Luckily, my desire to know and grow is much too strong to be stopped for very long by any unconscious fear of what I might find along my path.

So, when a psychic or healer tells you something about yourself that doesn't feel right, well, maybe it isn't. People do make mistakes. But a stranger can be more objective about you than you can be about yourself. So don't discard that "wrong" information, just file it away in a safe place where you can access it if you need to. And if you hear it again, and especially if you hear it again for the third time, it's probably correct and it would be to your benefit to listen.

A Tool for Dream Interpretation

Here is a very simple tool for interpreting your dreams: Describe the dream to someone else, and listen to the words that come out of your own mouth. I have found that if I just think about a dream, I merely see the same images that I saw when I was dreaming. But when I tell the dream to another person (or just talk to myself as if I were talking to someone else), the words I use are sometimes very surprising and tell me things about the dream that I hadn't realized before!

For instance, I had a dream in which I saw fish swimming around my ankle, but I wasn't in the water... the fish were swimming in the air. But when I described the dream to someone, I said the fish were "out of water!" That's when it hit me: Yes, lately, I had been feeling like things weren't quite right, or that I wasn't really where I needed to be. I was feeling like a fish out of water!

Discovering the meaning in your dreams is always enlightening, and sometimes it can literally be life-changing. One time I was telling a friend of mine about a dream I'd had the night before, which involved someone I know. I said something like "it was as if I were angry at him for..." and suddenly I realized that for years I had, in fact, been angry with the person in my dream, and for something that wasn't his fault! And with that realization came an energetic shift; in that moment, I let go of some emotional baggage that I had been carrying around for a very long time. And all because I talked about my dream, instead of just thinking about it!

Talk about your dreams, and you might just discover what they mean.

Your advantage for 2015.

A lot people will start off 2015 with a list of New Year's resolutions. That can be a good idea; it can help you realize what it is you want to accomplish as the year progresses.

Another good idea is to find out in advance what your year will look like, with a 12-month reading. A 12-month reading will give you a preview of the coming year in any areas that you're concerned about (love, money, health, whatever), or even in all areas. It will point out time frames to look forward to, or to be forewarned about so you can do something about them ahead of time.

Remember, your future isn't carved in stone; you create it as you go. If a reading tells you you've got smooth sailing ahead, great! But if it tells you the opposite, you can then work out an alternate plan to deal with the rough spots or maybe even avoid them altogether.

Talking with those who have died

I often get calls about people who have died. It’s usually from a family member or friend who wants to know how the person is doing. Usually they call several months after the death, and this can have an effect on the experience of contacting the person because, generally speaking, the longer someone’s been gone, the less interested they are in the life they just finished.

Compare these two contrasting experiences:

  • I had a client who wanted to talk to her daughter who had died 10 years previously. It took a while to make contact with her and when we finally did, the daughter was definitely annoyed. “What do you want? That was a long time ago.”

  • I helped a different woman whose uncle had been dead only a couple months. When we contacted him, he was very excited about the experiences he was having and was very busy in his process. But he was also pleased that his niece was checking up on him, so without stopping what he was doing, he looked in our direction and gave us a wave and a huge smile. It was like, “Don’t have time to chat, but thanks for coming by!” He was having too much fun to stop!

And this is a perfect illustration of how one person changes over time:

  • I contacted my father a year after he died. He didn't have much to say but still it was almost like talking to him before he died because he “felt” like the same person. But I contacted him again 2 years later and he was cold and indifferent; he was like a total stranger except that he knew who I was.

So here are some things you might find helpful if you’re interested in contacting someone who’s died.

When you contact someone who has been gone just a short time, they’re usually still interested in talking; they might be in shock, they might be having a ball, they might be very excited, they might be depressed, but they’re usually willing to talk. But after a certain amount of time has passed, if their process is going normally, they’re just really not interested anymore. There is no set "cut-off point," everybody's different, and it's something that happens gradually. But when you contact people who've been gone a long time, sometimes they’re politely tolerant, and sometimes they’re just short of rude. And it’s because they’re already involved in their next venture and the past is gone as far as they’re concerned. Dwelling on the past is a waste of time and energy (regardless whether you’re alive or dead) and people who are in the spirit realm are not inclined to do it.

There is a normal, more or less “standard” death process that most (not all) people go through after they die, and it can very roughly be described as “saying goodbye; reviewing your life; getting ready for your next life.”

  • The “saying goodbye” part is pretty much what it sounds like. You spend a short while visiting people and/or places you knew in your life, getting closure before leaving that life behind.
  • Reviewing your life” is also what it sounds like. You look back at every single thing you did in your life, and judge or grade yourself on how you did.
  • Getting ready for the next life” is a very long, complex, drawn-out process. Your focus at this time is on planning your next life, and the more your planning progresses, the less interest you have in the life and people you've left behind.

But some people do maintain an attachment to the physical plane for a long time after they die instead of going through the normal process, and without losing interest as time passes. There are two main reasons why someone might do that:

  • They’re lost or confused or afraid. Sometimes, for various reasons, people get confused or afraid during the dying process and they just can’t see or hear the beings that are there to help them. I have worked with clients whose deceased friend or relative was in a state like this, and we were able to help them move on into their appropriate after-death process.
  •  They've stayed here to help someone, a friend or relative, with their life. “Spirit guide” is a popular name for a spirit who does this. I have talked with spirit guides who were staying around the physical plane to help relatives they left behind, and it’s always a pleasant, interesting experience.

If you have a desire or a need to contact someone who has died, or if you just want more info, please feel free to contact me.

Raising Your Frequency

The frequency of your body affects your ability to communicate with Spirit. Whenever you’re doing some type of psychic work, whether it be  channeling, card reading, pendulum work, whatever, or just wandering through the woods communing with nature spirits, the higher your frequency is, the clearer your connection to the spirit realm will be.

There are various ways to raise your frequency; one way is to chant over and over the name of Spirit, or your preferred term for Spirit: God, All That Is, Great Spirit, whatever resonates with you. You can also chant the name of any saint or other being who’s sacred to you. Of course, using this method to raise your frequency takes concentration so it isn’t ideal for when your mind needs to focus on something else.

A method that’s easy and doesn’t take any concentration is to use certain stones, such as kyanite or sugilite, which are my two favorites. If you’re not familiar with these stones, they’re fairly common and inexpensive. Kyanite is composed of layers, which makes it prone to flaking and coming apart, so it’s not a great choice for carrying in your pocket. The most common kyanite is blue with silvery-white streaks. Sugilite, on the other hand, is solid and very hard, so it’s excellent for carrying around, and is usually some kind of reddish-purple.

To work with these stones, all you have to do is hold one in your hand as you’re working or talking with Spirit. Just being in contact with it will raise your frequency and make for a better, clearer connection.

Thought for the day

Thought for the day, inspired by a new friend: These very powerful mountains sometimes help us heal by twisting us like a wet rag and wringing our "stuff" out of us like dirty water!

Quick Tips- Clearing / Smudging

A clearing smudge is a great way to start your day. It's also a good idea when you've been sitting at the computer for a long time, or doing anything else that's stressful or unpleasant. When I've been working at my computer for too long, I get to feeling edgy and tense. (Okay, and crazy!) A short break for a little stretching, some quick movement, and a good smudge will sort of get the kinks out and help me feel ready to get back to it.

Don't know what smudging is or how to do it? Smudging is the process of clearing energy using  smoke from various herbs. Sage or sweetgrass are commonly used, and often in the form of a smudge stick, which is just a bundle of the herb. You can read about smudging to clear a living space here, and the process for clearing yourself is very simple: While standing, bend over and hold the smudge stick near your feet, then move it around your body in a spiral motion as you straighten up, ending with the smudge stick over your head. It's simple and quick and you don't need a lot of smoke; if the smoke alarm goes off you used too much.

Being Psychic- What's That Look Like?

I was driving down the street in Austin, Texas one day when I saw a small sign in Spanish. I could read all of it except one word, and I wondered what that word meant. I immediately heard “world.” When I got home I looked it up and, yes indeed, “mundo” is Spanish for “world.”

I met a woman at a party one time. She was vivacious and outgoing and we immediately hit it off. So when we went out about a week later I was surprised to find her very withdrawn and quiet. She was so different I just had to ask her if something was wrong, and I knew the answer before she had a chance to respond: She was afraid I could read her mind.

When Jill and I had just moved to Asheville, we pulled into the driveway of our rental house one day and saw the strangest little creature whizzing across the yard in a weird kind of mugalump, woofaloof, oozy, hard to describe way. I’d never seen anything like that and cried out, “What the hell is that?!!” I immediately heard “marmot.” So, of course, off we went to look up marmot and we found our now-beloved woodchuck.

These experiences have one thing in common: Ask a question and get an answer, just like when I’m doing a reading for someone. But sometimes there doesn’t even have to be a question, it can be like this:

We were in a restaurant in Raton, New Mexico, and boy, the service was bad, bad, bad! The waitress was slow and didn’t seem to care one bit about what she was doing or if she even did it at all. So as we waited for our food, I was idly watching our waitress as she walked around the dining room and I suddenly knew that she was extremely, heart-breakingly, sad! She felt so bad she couldn’t even begin to concentrate on her work. Later as we were leaving we heard her sharing with a co-worker that her daughter was having some medical problems.

Being a psychic isn’t about knowing everything all the time; if a psychic could “know all, see all” he would go crazy.

But the spirit world contains all the information anyone could ever want and the answers to any question anyone could ever ask. Being a psychic is about being able to communicate with that world, find the information you want, and hear the answers when they come.

(That’s it in a nutshell! In truth, it’s a big, big world!)

Relationship Readings

As a professional psychic for over 2 decades, I’ve talked with many clients about many things. The most popular things that people want to know about are what I call the “holy trinity”: Love, Money, Health. And of the three, Love is, by far, the thing that most people are interested in finding out about.

Why do so many people come for relationship readings? Many people long for love and just want to know when it’s likely to come along. Some ask “What am I doing wrong?” Others ask why the relationship they’re in isn’t working. And some people are happy with their relationship and just want to verify that “everything’s okay” and it’s going to stay that way.

So what sorts of things can you learn from a relationship reading?

If you’re having trouble finding that special someone, there are many possible reasons for that. Maybe it’s some personality trait that you’re not aware of. Maybe it’s some lesson that you need to learn and are having difficulty learning. There are many reasons why people who really want to be in a good relationship have so much trouble finding it. A relationship reading can show you what’s going on so you can change things.

A reading can tell you how compatible you and your “intended” are. It can point out differences that need to be understood in order to make the relationship work. (It can also tell you if there are differences that just can’t be overcome.) You can find out if there are complications in the relationship that you aren’t aware of, such as “another man/woman” or maybe an interfering parent. If things aren’t going as well as you’d like, a reading can tell you at what point in the future the relationship might take a turn that you would like to see… or it might point out some reason why the relationship will never go the way you want.

The most important thing to realize is that a relationship reading can tell you what will happen in the future if you (and the other person, if there is one) continue doing what you’re doing now. So regardless whether the reading paints a positive picture or a not-so-pleasant one, either way you come away with information that can help you find what you’re looking for: happiness.

Why a Psychic Reading?

Practical Answers to your questions

You can learn things from a psychic reading that you can't learn any other way. You go to a psychic because you want answers to your questions, and for over 30 years I've provided practical down-to-earth answers to a huge variety of questions:

  • "Can you help me find my dog?" (I did.)
  • "My parent/child/spouse has died. Can you tell me how they're doing?" (Yes, I can.)
  • "Should I take this job in Oregon/ San Francisco/ etc?" (That one varies, of course.)
  • "I haven't seen my child in x number of years. Can you tell me how they're doing?" (Yes, I can.)
  • "Can you teach me how to do what you do?" (Yes. How much depends on you.)
  • "What am I supposed to be doing with my life?" ( I can help you find the answer for yourself.)
  • "I seem to have spirits in my house. Can you get them out?" (Yes.)

The Holy Trinity

But most people want to know about what I call "the holy trinity": Love, Money, Health. And of those, most people, by far, want to know about Love, or relationships. So that's the topic of my next post.
